AEROEXPRESS

Aeroexpress rapid trains connect cities with airports. They run in Moscow, Kazan, Vladivostok. I would say that it is the most convenient way to get to the airport, because of the predictability and comfort. Moscow is a jam-prone city and you can easily be late for your flight if you take a taxi or bus from 7 a.m. till 10 p.m. Aeroexpress trains start from central railway stations. The trains are divided into two classes: business and standard. In business class you enjoy more comfort, less people and you buy a ticket for a particular seat. In standard class you can sit wherever you like. There are always less people in the rear. Do keep your ticket till the end of the journey as you will have to place it on the ticket barrier screen for it to read the barcode.

You can find a timetable on http://www.aeroexpress.ru/en/.

Buying tickets

Buying a ticket for an Aeroexpress is very easy, you can do it:

  1. From a ticket office at the station or at the aiport.
  2. From a ticket vending machine at the station, at the airport or on the platform.
  3. From an officer onboard the train.
  4. Online at http://www.aeroexpress.ru/en/ or in a mobile application for Moscow. If you buy your ticket in a mobile App. you don’t have to print your ticket out. When you pass the turnstile on leaving the platform just place your device screen down for the machine to read the QR code of your ticket. This is one of the cheapest options.
  5. By Master Card with PayPass and VISA with PayWave in Moscow. You should leave your train and put your card on the yellow circle of the ticket barrier and pass through the doors immediately. Conditions: there should be enough money on your card (the cost of a single ticket in a standard class is charged), your PayPass and PayWave should allow you to spend the necessary sum without PIN, you have only 3 seconds to pass through the doors. This is one of the cheapest options.

You buy a standard ticket for a particular date and can travel at any time you like. Sale starts 15 days before departure. Business class tickets can be bought in any of the above-mentioned ways but for options 3 and 5. Your business class ticket is valid for a particular train and seat.

There are carriages and toilets for the physically challenged passengers, as well as a service of personal assistants (to be ordered at the info desk or by calling hotline +7-800-700-33-77, toll free within Russia).
